West Bengal governement ignores its unanimous resolution

According to an RTI response, West-Bengal government never forwarded to the Union government, a resolution passed by the state assembly on 20.07.1999 for changing name of the state from West-Bengal to Bangla. However the other resolution for renaming Calcutta as Kolkata was forwarded to Union Home Ministry and that was subsequently implemented too. It is senseless to name a state as West Bengal because erstwhile East Bengal is now Bangladesh. Rather it creates confusion because incidentally West-Bengal is in eastern part of the country! Otherwise also, names of states should also be changed to make them one-worded like Karnatak, Maharashtra etc so that distortion by abbreviation may not be possible as has been like UP for Uttar Pradesh.

RTI response also reveals that spellings of too many Indian cities have been changed after independence like Jullender as Jalandher and Simla as Shimla, that revealing them will disproportionately divert resources of the public-authority! But surprisingly still there is no move to change distorted British-given spelling of capital city Delhi even despite Union Sports Minister MS Gill appealing for such change before Commonwealth Games-2010 to be held in New Delhi. Almost all the countries have changed spellings of their capitals per their actual pronunciation like Beijing for Peking and DhaKa for Dacca.
