Bareilly, Sept 3 : A woman police officer was physically assaulted and dragged on the road for almost one kilometer by her subordinates in Bareilly town of Uttar Pradesh when she caught them red-handed while extorting money from truckers.
The incident happened late on Thursday evening when Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Kalpana Saxena arrived at a check-point in the town from where she had received complaint of extortion from truckers in the name of traffic checking.
?I rushed to the area along with the gunner and driver in a private car to catch them red handed. When I reached the area, I saw them extorting bribes from the constables. The constables recognised me and tried to flee and crush me under their police vehicle,? Saxena, who is now admitted in hospital with a fractured hand and injuries in head, said.
The guilt cops attacked Saxena and then tried to flee in their official vehicle. But the office caught hold of the neck of the driver of the vehicle and she was dragged for about one kilometer in full public view.
Saxena, 1990 batch officer of the state’s Provincial Police Service, was then thrown on the road by the cops, who fled the spot.
The three accused policemen have been placed under immediate suspension and a police case registered against them.
One of the accused has already been arrested and hunt is on to nab the others.
