Boxing champion Yuri Alexandrov dies at 50
Former world amateur boxing champion Yuri Alexandrov has died at the age of 50, the Russian Boxing Federation said Wednesday.
The 1982 world featherweight champion died Tuesday, the federation said in a website statement, without specifying a cause of death.
As well as his world title, Alexandrov was European champion at bantamweight in 1983, before picking up a world bronze at the same weight a year later. He was also a four-time Soviet champion.
In 1989, Alexandrov launched a professional career, but lost three of his five fights and retired in 1992.
