I am yet to be paid by BCCI: Sunil Gavaskar

Indian Cricket icon Sunil Gavaskar has said he has not been paid for his service to the IPL Governing council by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

“I am yet to be paid by the BCCI for my role as a IPL Governing Council member. I have not been paid at all,” Gavaskar told NDTV in an exclusive interview.

“I have been sending a gentle reminder about the non-payment and I have just been told that Pawar will organize a meeting for me with Shashank Manohar in presence of him to sort out the matter. That for me is good enough, so I am not demanding anything,” he added.

However, BCCI has dismissed the little master’s claims and informed that he was paid for his service to Indian Premiere League (IPL), reports said.

Gavaskar also disowned having any links with Kochi, promoted by Rendezvous Sports World Pvt Ltd as reports had mentioned earlier, saying the former India captain would head the franchisee’s cricket operation, specially after it was served with a 30-day BCCI notice to make everything clear or else get terminated the franchise.

“I do not have deals with Kochi.I told them that I can not while I am on the Governing Council,” he told NDTV.

“If there was any association I could have gone to the Governing Council and asked for permission. If the Council said no then it would have been a matter of me choosing between going to a franchisee or being in the Governing Council, but the fact of the matter is so far they do not even have a franchise, they are still having internal issues with them.”

He also mentioned in the interview that he was not into any contract with Kochi and would wait till the ‘internal problems’ were solved and then only he would take the final decision.

Gavaskar also informed NDTV that he had been approached by another franchisee to ‘head the cricket operations’.

Earlier, media reports said Gavaskar was apparently the man who propped up Rendezvous Sports and got investors for the bid.

This was confirmed by the Gaekwad family which owns 25 per cent free equity and one per cent paid equity in the team.

In a statement, Gavaskar said,”they have asked me, individually and collectively, to come in for the cricketing part of the team. I will take a call once the internal issues are resolved.”
