I just took my chances: Rohit Sharma

Bangalore : Rohit Sharma said it was all about staying on the wicket as he got to a double ton against Australia in the seventh and the final ODI of the series at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here Saturday.

Sharma became the third Indian after his compatriots Sachin Tendulkar (200 not out) and Virender Sehwag (219) to score double centuries in ODIs. His 158-ball 209 was studded with 12 fours and a record 16 sixes.

“To get 200 runs is a wonderful feeling. The idea was to stay on the wicket and capitalise later. This is a small ground and it’s easier to hit and I just took my chances,” the 26-year-old Sharma said.

The 26-year-old the century in Jaipur ODI boosted his confidence and helped him to play aggressively.

“It is really coming off very well. I got a hundred in the last game and I just wanted to carry on from that. I wanted to play big. I just wanted to keep the momentum going,” he said.

Sharma enroute to his 209 also crossed 1000 runs this year besides also getting 3000-runs mark in his ODI career.

Sharma was also involved in a run-out that saw in-form Virat Kohli falling for a duck.

“It happens sometimes. It’s all a part and parcel of the game,” he added.
