India to face Iran in volleyball tourney at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata
Kolkata : India will face tough challenge from Iran as the four-nation 3rd Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship
(Central Zone) begins with the opening play between Iran and Pakistan at Netaji Indoor Stadium Kolkata on Friday.
Reigning champions India will take on Kazakhstan in the second match as fixtrues were drawn for four-day round-robin competition.
The Pakistani squad finally arrived on Thurday as it had some visa problem.
West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan formally opened the championship on Thursday as the participating nations took part in a colourful march amids cheers and clappings from the audience.
The tournament is being held after a gap of two years.
Islamabad had organised the second edition in 2007 where India took gold medal, followed by Iran and Kazakhstan. Maldivies, Sri Lanka and Turkmenistan had also taken part there.
September 18: Pakistan vs Kazakhstan (1500 hours), India vs Iran (1700 hrs).
September 19: Iran vs Kazakhstan (1500 hrs), India vs Pakistan (1700 hrs) and final on Septemebr 20.
