Ready for all probe, says Suresh Kalmadi

New Delhi : Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi said on Monday that he is open to any kind of probe and will give a statement in the Parliament soon.

“I welcome investigations into the Commonwealth Games projects. I will give a statement in Parliament. I have met Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar today (Monday) and she said whenever the House runs, I can make the statement,” Kalmadi told reporters, after making an appearance at the Parliament.

Kalmadi, who is also the president of Indian Olympic Association (IOA), returned from Guangzhou on Sunday night after the successful closing of the Asian Games.

Kalmadi’s three closest aides – T.S. Darbari, Sanjay Mohindroo and M. Jayachandran – are behind the bars for their alleged involvement in corrupt deals during the Queen’s Baton relay in London last year.

Kalmadi is also likely to be quizzed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the CWG overlays scam.

Kalmadi said the matter is sub-judice, but he wants to tell the Parliament that he is not at fault.

“I am ready to answer all the question of the federal investigative agency. The budget of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee was between Rs.1,500 crore and Rs.1,700 crore, but we only spent Rs.1,400 crore,” he said.

“We were not involved in the construction work related to the Commonwealth Games. Our work was to organise the Games, including the closing and opening ceremony,” added Kalmadi.
