New York : Tiger Woods is one of the four golfers to get selected to the U.S. Ryder Cup team by captain Corey Pavin.

He was selected in the team during a press conference at the New York Stock Exchange on Tuesday morning, Wood?s official website said.

It marks the sixth Ryder Cup appearance for Woods, who previously competed in 1997, 1999, 2002, 2004 and 2006.

The other captain’s picks are Zach Johnson, Stewart Cink and Rickie Fowler.

They join Americans Jim Furyk, Dustin Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Hunter Mahan, Phil Mickelson, Jeff Overton, Steve Stricker and Bubba Watson, all of whom qualified on points after the PGA Championship.

The U.S. team will seek to retain the Cup at Celtic Manor in Newport, Wales, United Kingdom from Oct. 1-3.

“It’s great to be part of this team, and I’m honored to be selected,” Woods said. “I’m looking forward to going to Wales and hopefully bringing the Cup back.”

Woods, who has manned the No. 1 spot in the World Ranking for 274 consecutive weeks, has an overall record of 10-13-2 in the Ryder Cup. He was unable to play in 2008 as he was recovering from knee surgery at the time.

Woods said he has always enjoyed being a part of team competitions and looks forward to
bonding with the players.

“I’ve always loved being part of the team and getting to know the guys,” he said. “I’ve made some great friends. They are experiences you will never forget.”

Woods feels good about the direction his game is headed with swing coach Sean Foley. In his last two starts, Woods tied for 12th at The Barclays and tied for 11th at the Deutsche Bank Championship.

“It’s nice that my game is coming around,” said Woods, who will defend his title this week at the BMW Championship.

“I feel that my game is not far away. That makes it easier going into a pressure-packed environment.”
