Umpire Rauf denies role in spot fixing scam

Lahore  :  Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf here Wednesday denied spot fixing allegations that were levelled against him by the Mumbai police.

Addressing the Pakistani media here, the International Cricket Council (ICC) elite panel umpire said that he had not taken bribes or gifts from bookies during the Indian Premier League (IPL) and was ready to face any inquiry.

I deny allegations of match fixing, spot fixing, taking gifts (from bookmakers) and any illegal money. I am ready to face any enquiry if the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) wants to conduct. I will be happy to answer any question and I am waiting for that. That is all I have to say,” said Rauf, who was withdrawn by the ICC from next month’s Champions Trophy in England and Wales after reports emerged that he was under police investigation in India.

Bollywood actor Vindoo Dara Singh Randhawa, who was also arrested by the Mumbai police for alleged links with the bookies, had told police that Rauf gave him vital information to place bets on, and he was introduced to Rauf through a bookie.
