West Bengal footie star to build temple in Robson”s honour

Kolkata, Aug.4 (ANI): West Bengal football striker Gautam Ghosh has decided to build a temple in honour former England player-cum-manager Bobby Robson, who died of cancer at the age of 76 last week.

Ghosh has decided to take the initiative as a tribute to Robson who spotted the raw talent on offer in India during a pre-season tour of the country while PSV Eindhoven manager in the 1990s and invited the best to come and train back in Holland. Ghosh was one those recruits, reports the Daily Star.

Ghosh said: ?He was like God to me. A temple in his name will be the best tribute to a man who loved football more than anything.?

Boria Majumdar, author of A Social History of Indian Football, said: ?A racist element led to Indian players being ignored by the rest of the footballing world. But Sir Bobby didn?t see divisions ? he just saw football, and wanted to give these boys a chance to shine. They got the opportunity to train with the first team at PSV and their football improved massively under him.? (ANI)
