Andhra minister, MP spar over Secunderabad parliamentary seat

There are still two years to go for parliamentary elections but a cabinet minister in Andhra Pradesh and a member of parliament, both belonging to ruling Congress party are publicly sparring over the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat.

A day after Marketing Minister Mukesh Goud declared his intention to contest from Secunderabad in the 2014 elections, member of parliament Anjan Kumar Yadav warned him against setting his eyes on the constituency, which he is representing for the second consecutive term.

A war of words has broken out between the two leaders, much to the embarrassment of the party leadership.

“Secunderabad is not the property of anybody. I want to contest for that seat in the next elections,” said Goud, who currently represents the Maharajgunj assembly constituency in the state capital.

Goud is reportedly keen to make way for his son to enter state politics by moving over to the Lok Sabha.

“When I am the sitting MP, how can he make such a statement,” asked Yadav, adding that the minister should be sent to a mental hospital.

Meanwhile, another state legislator, Raji Reddy, has fired a salvo against Malkajgiri MP Sarve Satyanarayana, saying the party could lose the election if Sarve is again fielded from the seat.

Raji Reddy represents Uppal assembly constituency, one of the segments of Malkajgiri Lok Sabha seat on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
