Curfew in Srinagar ahead of Muharram processions
Curfew was imposed in several parts of Srinagar on Wednesday to prevent Muharram processions.
Prohibitory orders have been clamped in areas under Kothibagh, Maisuma, Kralkhud, Ram Munshi Bagh and Shaheedgunj police stations, reports said.
The restrictions were imposed to thwart Muharram processions, which, authorities suspect, could be used by separatists as political gatherings.
Security deployment has been strengthened in the curfew clamped areas, while strict vigil was also being kept at other areas.
The Muharram procession has been disallowed in Srinagar since the early 1990s as the occasion is used by separatists elements to air anti-India sentiments.
