Jammu and Kashmir Census data released
Jammu and Kashmir Directorate of Census Operations on Thursday released the provisional data of J&K Cencus-2011 in Srinagar.
The State?s Census department, headed by Chief Principal Census Officer Farooq Ahmed Faktoo, officially released the population figures and other variables of the 2011 census at a press conference on Thursday.
As per the released data, Jammu and Kashmir stands 19th state of the country as far as population is concerned with an over all population of 1,25,48,926.
“As per the last census conducted in 2001, the population of J&K was 1,01,43,700 and there was an increase of about 24,05,226 in population and now in the year 2011 it stands at 1,25,48,926,” said Faktoo.
Jammu district stands on top in the ranking of districts by population size with 12.16% population of the state followed by Srinagar (10.12%), Anantnag (8.53%) Baramulla (8.09%), Kupwara (6.9%), Budgam (5.86%) Kathua (4.9%), Rajouri (4.93%), Pulwamma (4.54%) Udhampur (4.43%) and so on.
Jammu also tops in literacy rate followed by district Samba and Leh.
