Kashmir: Pranab Mukherjee , P Chidambaram to be part of all-party team

New Delhi : An all-party delegation will visit trouble-torn Jammu and Kashmir on Monday to take stock of the situation in the Kashmir Valley first-hand and gauge the popular sentiments there to arrive at a consensus solution to end the crisis.

The decision to depute the high-level team was taken at a meeting of all political parties here on Wednesday, presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Meanwhile, the Congress on Friday chose senior leaders and Union ministers Pranab Mukherjee and P Chidambaram to be part of the all-party delegation.

The decision was taken at a meeting held at Congress chief Sonia Gandhi?s residence here, in the presence of Mukherjee, Chidambaram, AK Antony, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Saifuddin Soz, among others.

The Congress Core Committee had met on Thursday evening also to discuss the Kashmir issue, the second meeting of the body within days on the same issue.

The principle Opposition party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to depute Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj, Leaders of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha respectively, to visit Kashmir.

At least 90 people have been killed in the Valley since June 11 in escalating violence, with most part of the Valley under curfew for better half of the past three months.
