Kerala court ask for Sabarimala report
Thiruvanthapuram : The Kerala High Court has sought a report from the state government by Thursday on the Sabarimala stampede that killed 102 pilgrims on Friday night.
The division bench of judges Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and P. Bhavadasan, which took suo motu cognizance of the stampede, on Monday wanted to know from the administration, including the police and forest department, on what happened on the fateful night.
It wanted to know if there were proper coordination between the devasoms (department overseeing the temple affairs in the state) and other departments.
“Explain how the mishap occurred,” said the two judges hearing the case.
The court is apparently not too pleased with the manner the pilgrimage is conducted.
Earlier, Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan, after visiting the stampede site, announced a judicial probe following a meeting with ministers, local legislators and government officials.
Achuthanandan refused to speculate on what triggered the tragedy and said the judicial enquiry will reveal the details.
