26/11 reminder of perilous neighbour: AK Antony

Defence Minister AK Antony on Friday said the 26/11 mayhem is a ?grim reminder? of India?s ?perilous neighbourhood?.

In a message on the second anniversary of the terrorist attack on Mumbai, he reiterated the nation’s resolve not to allow a repeat of 26/11-type mayhem by terrorists in the country.

Clear hinting about Pakistan?s involvement in the Mumbai Terror Attack, Antony said, ?It is a grim reminder of the volatile and perilous state of our neighbourhood, and thereby, the need for constant vigil.?

The Minister said his thoughts go out to the families to the victims and the ?extraordinarily brave? security personnel, who lost their lives in the carnage.

On November 26, 2008, pockets of Mumbai, including the iconic Taj Mahal hotel, were attacked by 10 Pakistani terrorists.

The strike lasted for over 60 hours and left at least 166 people dead and over 200 injured.

The lone surviving terrorist Ajmal Kasab, who was later arrested, has been sentenced to death.

His appeal against the conviction is now being heard by the Mumbai High Court.
