Adarsh Housing Scam: CBI files FIR, names Ashok Chavan

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday filed a First Information Report (FIR) in the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society scam here, where it named former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, along with retired defence and army officials.

CBI Joint Director Rishi Raj Singh told media that 13 people, including Chavan, have been named in the FIR. However, he clarified that the Congress leader is not an accused in the scam yet.

Other people named in the FIR include retired army men, defence officials and bureaucrats, as well as promoters of the controversial building.

According to reports, the FIR named former Congress MLC is Kanhaiyalal Gidwani, Adarsh Society?s chief promoter RC Thakur, Major General (retired) MM Wanchoo and IAS officer Pradeep Vyas.

The FIR has been filed under Prevention of Corruption Act and Indian Penal Code for forgery, cheating and criminal conspiracy.

Earlier, on Jan 18, the Bombay High Court had asked CBI to register an FIR if they want to carry on their investigation into the scam.

The Adarsh society flats were originally meant for war widows and their dependants but former defence officers and kin of powerful politicians and bureaucrats ended up getting membership.

Ashok Chavan was forced to quit as Chief Minister last year after it was revealed that his kin including late mother-in-law, owned flats in the Adarsh society.

  • It is well known that Pakistani Politicians disowns the so called ” NATIONAL ASSETS – Terrorists ” when caught or killed by foreign countries, but today we see Congress disowns it’s ” PARTY ASSETS – Corrupt Politicians, Bureaucrats, Officials etc…. “. Better if this Corrupts and Looters from every party defends their case, and not on Tax-payers money.
