Raj Thackeray opposes renaming of Dadar

Maharashtra NavNirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has opposed renaming of Dadar railway station, media reports said on Tuesday.

The ruling Congress and its ally Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) said they want to rechristen Dadar station as Chaitya Bhoomi as a tribute to Dalit politician BR Ambedkar, whose final resting place is near the station.

“We are support the demand for remaining Dadar station as Chaitya Bhoomi in honour of Baba Ambedkar. We have sent a letter to the central government a year ago,” said Maharashtra Congress president Manikrao Thakre.

However, Thackeray has opposed the move and said: “Instead of renaming a station, if one must honour Ambedkar, his picture should be put on 500 rupees notes.”
