Azam Khan, Key witness in Sohrabuddin Sheikh shot at in Rajasthan’s Udaipur

Jaipur : Azam Khan, a key witness in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case being probed by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), was injured after he was reportedly shot at in Rajasthan’s Udaipur on Tuesday night.

Udaipur SP Sanjeev Narzari said that Khan, who was traveling in a car with a friend, was injured but his condition was stable.

Narzari said that the incident occurred around 8 pm near the Udai Sagar lake when two men on a motorcycle apparently shot at Khan and his friend.

Khan claimed he and his friend Iqbal were returning from the lake when two men on a motorcycle pulled up next to their car and opened fire.

?A bullet passed through my left shoulder, another hit the car but we managed to speed away and came to the hospital,? Khan said.

Khan used to be an aide of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and had served term in jail with Tulsiram Prajapati in the Hamid Lala murder case.

In his deposition to the CBI, Khan claimed Prajapati told him that he too would be killed in a fake encounter since he knew too much about the killing of Sohrabuddin.

Khan also made claims concerning former ministers of two states: Gulab Chand Kataria of Rajasthan and slain Gujarat minister Haren Pandya.

Khan alleged that Kataria was linked to the marble lobby which was weary of repeated extortion by Sohrabuddin. Kataria, however, denied the charge.

Khan also told CBI that Gujarat police officer Abhay Chudasama offered to bail out Sohrabuddin in the Pandya murder case.
