Raged mob burn cop alive in Rajasthan

A police inspector was burnt alive in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district on Thursday evening by a violent protesting mob enraged by the suicide of a man who killed himself due to the alleged inaction in a murder case.

Earlier in the evening two men had climbed a water tank in the area and threatened to jump if police did not nail the culprits who had chopped off the legs of a woman and killed her in the Sudwai village during a robbery on Feb 25.

One of the two men jumped from the tank and killed himself. His death enraged the crowd that had gathered and they set a police jeep that arrived on the scene on fire.

The Station House Officer Phool Mohammad was burnt alive and several other police officials suffered injuries after being pelted with stones, Rajasthan Additional Director General (Law and Order) Navdeep Singh said.

One of the protesters was shot in the police firing that followed the incident. The situation has now reportedly been brought under control and extra police have been deployed at the site.
