No eyewitness in Arunima Sinha accident
Lack of eyewitnesses is making investigation difficult for the police in national level volleyball player Arunima Sinha incident, who lost a leg after being pushed off a running train in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly area as she tried to resist a robbery, said officials on Tuesday.
“The victim Miss Sonu (Arunima) Sinha is yet not able to help the police in preparing the sketch of the accused as her poor health does not allow her to do so and no eyewitness has come forward till date to disclose any thing substantial to the police,? additional director general (ADG) railways (UP) AK Jain told reporters.
?Despite these hindrances, the investigation is moving in a positive direction.” he said.
Already the police has lodged an FIR under section 307 (attempt to murder) and 393 (attempt to robbery) against unidentified persons.
Meanwhile, on Monday, Sinha was transferred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, considered one of the country?s best hospitals after her plight saw heightened coverage by national media and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati offered to help.
Union Sports Minister Ajay Maken visted the ailing athlete at Lucknow’s Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU) on Monday evening.
Uttar Pradesh Sports Minister Ayodhya Pal Singh visited Arunima and offered her a job.
“Her condition has improved. The Chief Minister has offered aid. We have assured her a job wherever she wants one,” said Singh.
He said Arunima has accepted the offer.
On Sunday, Arunima underwent surgery for a second time following an infection in her amputated left leg.
Arunima was pushed off the train on Apr 11 night in Uttar Pradesh by some men who allegedly tried to snatch her gold chain.
She was on way to Delhi from Faizabad when the incident occurred on Padmavat Express between Chenati and Bareilly railway stations, police said.
She was going to Delhi to appear for a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) examination in Noida.
Reports said when she tried to resist, she was thrown out of the train by the robbers while some officials said some men engaged in a fight came over her and led to the incident.
ADG Railways AK Jain said she was found on the track at 4 am on Apr 12. He said she still has the gold chain and there was no robbery in the train.
