National Bridge championship starts Dec 10

Kolkata : Top players of India and some from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have confirmed their participation at the 52nd Winter National Bridge Championship to be held at Netaji Indoor Stadium here between Dec 10-17, West Bengal Bridge Association’s organising secretary Arijit Guha said on Monday.

The championship is being held for the first time in nine years.

Around 1500 players are expected to take part in the 8-day championship for six events, which have price money of Rs 4 lakh.

The events are Ruia Gold, Ruia Silver for team championship, IMP pairs, Holkar pairs, categorised and mixed pairs.

Among other frontline players who confirmed their participation are Kamal Mukherjee, Subash Gupta, Pritish Kushari, Manas Mukherjee, Kiran Nasdar, Anand Mehta, the father in-law of Sachin Tendulkar, B Pravakar Rao and Rajesh Dahal.

In the team championship the winners of last Bangalore edition, Indian Railways and runers up Rampur Sugar Mills will feature in the
challenge.

The title sponsor is Paharpur Cooling Tower and supported by M N Dastoor.
