Ashes: England win Melbourne Test

Wednesday is an emotional day for England as their cricket side defeated Australia in the fourth Test by an innings and 157 runs to retain the Ashes in Australia for the first time in 24 years.

It was a completely one sided Test match with English players dominating over the Australians all through the match.

In fact, with 7 wickets taken on Tuesday, England needed only 3 more Aussie wickets this morning to win the Test match and they completed the task to ensure the victory.

Australia were all out at a score of 258 runs on Wednesday morning.

T. Bresnan was the pick of the English bowlers as he took 4 wickets in the game, he also took the last Australian wicket of Ben Hilfenhus.

Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin remained not out at 55.

Both Haddin and Peter Siddle (40) tried to give some kind of a challenge to the English bowlers, but it was too late for the Aussies to bounce back in the game.

Earlier, English batsmen scored 513 in their first innings in response to the 98 runs scored by the Aussies in their first innings.

This is for the first time in history that Australians lost two Test matches on their home soil by an innings.

“To my English friends well done and congrats on the cricket u played. thanks for all the humble messages to !!! Enjoy moment u deserve it” tweeted Shane Warne after Australia succumbed.

“Congrats to the England cricket team on retaining the ashes .. It has taken 24 years for England to do it in Aust.. Well done and Congrats,” he added.

After this defeat, both the team will look forward to the fifth and final Test of the series at
Sydney, where the English will aim to continue their winning run and ensure another historic series victory.
