BCCI slams ICC official over Mahendra Singh Dhoni rebuke

The Indian cricket board on Wednesday expressed its strong displeasure at International Cricket Council (ICC) General Manager Dave Richardson?s comment against Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

The ICC official had asked Dhoni to check the rules before complaining, when the Indian skipper had objected to decision to rule English batsman Ian Bell not out during their league match on Sunday despite the call being referred to the TV umpire through the Umpire Decision Referral System (UDRS).

In a strongly-worded letter to the ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Honorary Secretary N Srinivasan said the Richardson?s comment count was tantamount to pressuring a player.

?Mr. Richardson’s comment that the Indian Captain should know the rule is out of place. The Indian Captain only highlighted the inadequacy of the system and rightly so,? wrote Srinivasan.

?BCCI has strong reservations about the statement made by Mr. Richardson. He should be instructed not to react in this fashion,? he added.

Srinivasan said that the inadequacy of the UDRS has been exposed during the ongoing World Cup.

He reminded that the BCCI has consistently opposed usage of UDRS since it was not convinced about the technical adequacy of the system.

?The supplier of the technology themselves felt “a leap of faith” was necessary in order to accept the system,? he said.
