BJP supports Zanskar cause; lashes out at Omar govt

Lashing out at the Omar Abdullah-government, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Thursday voiced its backing for the “Zanskar cause” expressing strong opposition for the “discriminatory” policies of the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) government.

A high-level delegation from the border area of Zanskar met BJP president Nitin Gadkari to submit a memorandum.

The Zanskar sub-division is a remote area in the Kargil District at a distance of 240 kms from its District headquarters.

The people of Zanskar have been demanding the construction of an all weather road along gorges of Zanskar river since last two decades so that they remain well-connected, the BJP said.

Their demands include separate district status for the Zanskar sub-division, additional Councillor seats for Zanskar in the Hill Development Council and separate Assembly constituency for Zanskar.

The government, however, have allegedly ignored their demands so far.

”It is sad to know that in this time and age the region is still not developed and is cut from the rest of the nation for almost seven months of the year. And the people are surviving in such difficult circumstances.,? Gadkari said.

He asked the delegation, led by MP Tarun Vijay to raise the issue with Human Rights commission on behalf of the BJP.

He assured the delegation from Zanskar that the BJP will take up their cause at the highest level and the party leaders in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley will raise the issue in Parliament.
