Congress is a party under siege: BJP

Faced with scandals, the Congress is acting like a party under siege now, like it had been during the days of Bofors scandal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said reacting to the plenary speeches of the ruling party.

?Congress party is suffering from the mentality of a party under siege,? said the opposition BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman at a press conference here.

She said the Congress has distanced the people from the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government and ?the mood in the party is now to evade answers.?

She said Sonia Gandhi in the ongoing plenary speech tried to divert attention by choosing abusive language against the opposition and accusing it of political blackmail.

It is aimed at diverting attention from failures of UPA 2, she said.

Sonia in her plenary speech had targeted BJP on the issue of corruption, saying the latter could not make its chief minister in Karnataka resign like Congress did.

On the virulence of Congress leader Digvijay Singh who blamed the Rathyatra of L K Advani before the Babri demolition as the root of terrorism in India, Sitharaman said the Congress leader was saying all these to cover up his untruths.

?Mr Digvijay Singh almost tarnished the image of a martyr like Hemant Karkare,? she said.

Digvijay Singh had claimed that he had received a phone call from late Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare before his death during 26/11 Mumbai attack when “the deceased had told him that he was receiving life threats from Hindu terrorists in connection with Malegaon blasts”.

?He [Digvijay Singh] cold not give proof of his conversation with Karkare. He failed to show it. Today to cover up that he said all these,? Sitharaman said.
