England defeat Netherlands by 6 wickets

After a sluggish performance by the English bowlers, the batsmen played sensibly to give their side a much needed winning start to their World Cup campaign as they defeated Netherlands by six wickets here on Monday.

Riding on a brilliant century by Ryan ten Doeschate who hit 3 sixes and 9 boundaries in his 119 runs innings, Netherlands posed a surprisingly huge total of 292 runs for the loss of 6 wickets against England.

British bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad received good amount of thrashing form the ?Men in Orange?, as all of them conceived runs.

Swann who picked up 2 wickets by giving away only 35 runs looked a bit comfortable in the Indian pitches.

Chasing 293 for victory English batsmen reached the total of 296 runs by losing just 4 wickets.

Captain Andrew Strauss batted sensibly at the top and he was supported well by Kevin Pietersen (39) and Trott (62).

Kevin Pietersen opened with Strauss in this match.

Ian Bell (33), Paul Collingwood (30*) and R. Bopara (30*) contributed well with the willow to ensure that England reach the target comfortably in the end.
