Gayle’s wicket was the turning point: Ashwin

Chennai Super Kings bowler, R. Ashwin, feels that it was the wicket of Gayle in the very first over in the final encounter of the Indian Premiere League season 4 between his team and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Saturday night that acted as the turning point of the day.

“It was for the most of the people of Chennai and the team as well. The only man who could have spoilt the party after 200 runs was posted could have been Chris Gayle,” the right arm spinner said in an interview to a national channel.

“The day was good for us,” he commented.

Speaking on the success of the team, Ashwin said: “There has to be something. Nearly the same team for the past four years now.”

“IPL season three and then the Champions League, nine of the playerd were their in this team,” he said.

Ashwin, who performed well with the new ball, said that as a spinner one need to know how to use the new ball to deliver well with it.

“The new ball is a toy in your hand like a new bat in the batsman’s hand. You need to know how to work with it and control it,” he said.

Aswin picked up the wicket of Gayle in the very first over the match on Saturday before he could usher his storm in the MA Chidambaram Stadium where the high profile final match was played on Saturday night.

CSK defeated RCB by 58 runs in the final trophy to lift the Indian Premier League trophy for the second time consecutively.

CSK hasd posted 205 runs for the loss of five wickets and in return the RCB batsmen could only score 147 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

Ashwin played a crucial role for the Chennai outfit with the cherry as he picked up 20 wickets in the 16 matches he played in this season of the cash rich T20 cricket league.

CSK had lifted the third edition of IPL in 2010.
