Blast in Cong office in Guwahati, 2 injured
Days after the anti-talks faction of the ULFA threatened to strike, a high intensity blast, supposedly a grenade attack, took place in the Congress party office in Assam’s main city Guwahati on Monday night injuring two, police said.
Two Congress office bearers were injured in the explosion in the heart of the city, reports said.
While Assam goes to the two-phased polls in April, there was a threat from ULFA military leader Paresh Baruah.
Baruah is opposed to the peace process between the Centre and the ULFA group led by Arabinda Rajkhowa.
A loud noise was heard, locals said, while TV footage showed a big hole in the wall of the Congress office.
Congress members, who were bleeding and crying in pain, were shifted to hospital.
Assam is going to Assembly polls on April 4 and 11.
