Kings XI Punjab beat Deccans by 8 wickets
Riding on the winning partnership of 136 runs between Adam Gilchrist and C Valthaty, Kings XI Punjab crashed Deccan Chargers by eight wickets at their home turf in a league level match of the cash rich Indian Premiere League (IPL) on Saturday night.
Chasing Deccan Chargers? total of 165 runs for the loss of eight wickets, Punjab reached the winning score of 166 runs by losing only two wickets and with 14 balls in hand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here.
Adam Gilchrist butchered the Deccan bowlers as he played a quick fire 61 runs innings in just 46 deliveries.
He hit five boundaries and three massive sixers in the match, providing the audience with good amount of entertainment.
On the side of the crease, Paul Valthaty looked equally dangerous and ruthless as he made 75 runs from just 47 deliveries.
He hit eight fours and five sixers in the match.
Both the operners contributed a match-winning first wicket partnership of 136 runs and ensured their side an easy victory at the end.
Nayar (13*) and Dinesh Karthik (3*) remained unbeaten at the crease as Kings XI Punjab added more points after this victory.
A Mishra remained the most successful bowlers for the Deccan as he picked up two crucial wickets of Gilchrist and Valthaty by giving away only 28 runs.
Earlier, batting first, Deccan Chargers posed a total of 165 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their quota of 20 overs.
S Dhawan remained the top scorer for the home team with 45 runs.
Valthaty picked up four wickets in the match by giving away only 29 runs, earning him the player of the match award for his all round performance on Saturday.
