West Bengal: Phase five polls begin
Kolkata, May 7 (IBNS): Polling began on Saturday morning for the fifth leg of the six-phase Assembly elections in West Bengal, as parts of four districts geared up to vote under tight security arrangements.
West Midnapore, Purulia, Bankura and Burdwan districts are up for grabs on Saturday as 193 candidates will fight it out for 38 of the 294-seat West Bengal Assembly vying for the approval of over 74.18 lakh voters divided amongst over 9,400 polling stations.
West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura will see polling in 12, 5 and 9 seats out of their total 19, 19 and 12 seats respectively. The rest of the constituencies will have polling in the sixth phase on May 10. Burdwan, which already voted for 13 seats in the fourth phase, will poll for the remaining 12.
Polling began at 7 am and will continue till 5 pm. Voters, who do not bring the Voter ID card (EPIC) or have not been issued the EPIC so far, would be allowed to vote on production of any one of the photo documents as specified
